In World War 1 Grandpa was Pte D-27032 in the Essex Yeomanry. He was wounded in the leg going over the trenches and limped for the remainder of his life. He guarded bodies at Aachen Station, Germany.

from the church notices at Wimbledon Baptist Church 22 December 1985:

Mr. C G Featherstone
Mr. Featherstone was born in Gladstone Road in 1899 He was baptized at Queens Road. During the First World War he was wounded. Later from 1936-45 he was Treasurer at Merton Park Baptist Church. He served for many years as Deacon and Treasurer at Queens Road. Mr. Featherstone was a true Barnabas, a son of Consolation (or encouragement) Through the past twenty years he has given me unwavering friendship and support. I remember him sitting in the church at Chiswick listening to me preach. Coming to interview me in the Manse over there he broke his own holiday and returned early in order to vote for me when I first arrived. He was there when we first looked over the Manse at Wimbledon, and from then on he was always in support at the various leadership meetings and in the prayer meetings. Many generous ideas and suggestions came from him. He never sought the limelight, but behind the scenes he did so much to see that the life of the Church ran smoothly and in a way that was godly and glorifying to Jesus. One of his greatest satisfactions was to see his sons and their families walking in the ways of the Lord. During his recent illness it was a great Joy to him to know that three of his grandchildren were being baptized. In many ways he was a shy and sensitive man. He had a capacity for sensing what other people were feeling. But he was not a weak man. He had very high principles, and worked energetically and conscientiously at everything he did. Many times he said that be had no intention of retiring, and even during his last illness be was working away at home. He was a man full of the Holy Ghost for the word translated "consolation" is the same word for the Holy Spirit the Paraclete. He was gracious, loving, kindly, and with that genuine humility of spirit which is quite unselfconscious in its generosity. He was also a cultured gentleman. These are not words much in vogue these days, but he was a thoughtful man, a great reader, with an appreciation of words. Writing well (as well as handling accounts with great efficiency.) He also sang in the choir. Yet with all this he was an outdoor man, delighting in the Common, a keen sportsman. . Excellent at cricket and with a lifetime's interest in football. He hid a flexibility of mind which enabled him to come to each day with a young man's vision and enthusiasm even when in his eighties. We extend our most sincere and prayerful sympathy to Mrs. Featherstone and the family in their time of sadness.

SIXTY years OF marriage:
Our senior Church members, Mr and Mrs Featherstone, of Aylward Road, recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding. Baptised at Queen's Road, married at Queen's Road, all their lives they have spent in our fellowship. Their children were brought up among us, and all are in some form of Christian service, and now the third generation is serving likewise. Mrs Featherstone is a daughter of the Wood family, a well-remembered family of Queen's Road from earliest days, and is a sister of Mrs Johnson and Mrs Bungard. We send our heartiest congratulations to our dear and honoured friends, and wish them in the grace of God, yet many more years of happiness together.

From Roadmaker December 1958 (the magazine of Wimbledon Baptist Church)

From Aunty Clarice
I'm sorry I don't have a photograph of my parent's wedding. In fact I should be surprised if there are any. Firstly there were not very many pictures taken as long ago as that. Also I have the impression that they lived on quite a tight budget and photographs would have been an unnecessary luxury.
by Chas Ingrem KINGSTON 2a.789 Dec 1898. He was granted probate of the estate of Nellie Wood on 24 August 1961 at Probate Court, London, London, EnglandG; to the said Walter Featherstone retired postman. Effects £1984.24 From The Roadmaker April 1964 (church magazine of Wimbledon Baptist Church)
HEARING AIDS: The late Mr W. Featherstone some two years ago made a gift to the Church of £150 towards the installation of a new hearing and amplifying system for the Church, to be in memory of his wife, who pre-deceased him by a few months. An installation is about to be made of an induction-loop system which will enable those who use the aids to sit wherever they wish. We have every encouragement to believe that the system will be satisfactory. At the same time the Church is installing two column loud-speakers. We remember the choice life of the one whose memory is in the gift and the one who made the gift. We miss them from the fellowship on earth below. Their place in heaven above is theirs by faith alone.25

Walter Featherstone: We have lost by death the senior member of our Church, Mr Walter Featherstone, formerly of Aylward Road, passing from us only six months after his wife, who was second on the roll. Our dear friend joined the Church in 1896 and served as Sunday School teacher, both at Norman Road and at Queen's Road. His attendance at worship was an example to everyone, and only the little interludes out in the country at Effingham made him absent from us. His loyalty was beyond question, and this virtue was matched by those of thrift and generosity. He carried a cheery word for everyone, and for his minister a good word of encouragement. There was that in his home which is a quality that comes from a quiet and certain faith, a piety of attitude and mind. Simplicity was there but the simplicity of the depth of faith and love to Christ.
The best testimony to his life and character is his family, so many of whom are in the churches of these parts as active workers. His eldest son is our deacon, C. G Featherstone, and all of his sons but one are members with us, the one other son being a member of a Baptist Church in Berkshire, This is the legacy of faith, and a man can leave no better last will and testament to us than this, Our friend suffered from deafness in his latter years, and in the autumn made the handsome gift of £150 for a new installation of a hearing-aid in the Church in memory of his wife.
We shall greatly miss him his quiet presence and generous support, He is now among those who sleep in Jesus whom God shall bring with Him when He comes to judge the living and the dead.
The funeral service was conducted by The Minister at Queen's Road on Thursday, 25th January 1962.

Clarice Nellie Featherstone married George H Ross on 18 June 1938 at Queens Road Church, Wimbledon, Surrey, EnglandG; C.N.F.-G.H.R.-JunE 18th, 1938.
To-day was a happy day for Clarice and George, and many friends and relations were present at the Church to see these two joined in holy matrimony.
The bride looked charming in a regal gown of silver brocaded satin, and carried a bouquet of white carnations and lilies of, the valley. She was attended by two small bridesmaids and two pages, all relations of the bride, by name June, Denise, Brian and Michael. The little girls wore peach coloured satin frocks with silver sashes and carried silver baskets of peach carnations. The boys wore period, suits of pale green satin. After the ceremony more than fifty guests adjourned to Queen's Hall.
Mr. G. C. Wood, the bride's grandfather, Proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, and the toast was replied, to by George in a few well chosen words. Mr. Voysey, who had officiated at the ceremony then proposed the health of the bridal attendants, and this was replied to by the best man Mr. HL. Page, who said that as brevity was the order of the day he would just say thank you on their behalf. The happy pair left amid a shower of confetti and good wishes, for Cumberland. Clarice had changed into a sage green three piece suit, and was taking with her a musquash swagger coat, present from the bridegroom.
Good luck from the Fellowship. G.D.B.M.
