Thomas is possibly Thomas Featherstone C 4 March 1792 Strood (George - f and Elizabeth - m) Film 6900630 Paul, maybe we know each other but I don't recognize your e-mail address. I am Lynn Burdick and I am a member of the Featherstone Society. I have been trying to solve a mystery with regards to one of my relatives. I have evidence of my ancestor's marriage.

Thomas Featherstone married Martha Town in the Parish of Boxley on 21 August 1812. I estimate that if they married at full age, then Thomas was probably born 1792. It is so funny that I also found through the Church Latter Day Saints sites a whole family of Featherstones, to include Thomas, living in Strood near Rochester (Kent). Thomas in fact has a christening date of 4 March 1792. His mother and father are George and Elizabeth. George and Elizabeth's first child was christened in January 1790. I then estimate that they would have been married shortly before that time if either 1788 or 1789.

You published the information of the marriage of George Featherstone to Elizabeth Row on 2 October 1788 in Addington, Kent. Because of the coincidences here, can we be near a find? How do we go about confirming the maiden name of the Church of LDS for the following children:

George Featherstone christened 31 January 1790 Strood Near Rochester
Thomas Featherstone christened 4 March 1792 Strood Near Rochester
George Featherstone christened 18 May 1794 Strood Near Rochester
Elizabeth Featherstone christened 25 February 1798 Strood Near Rochester

Subject: Featherstone Family History

Dear Mr Featherstone
I'm a member of GOONS (No.1926) and have been researching my Fermor family history for more than ten years. My husband's brother-in-law, Frank Featherstone of Gravesend, Kent is now keen to learn more about his ancestors and I have just found his grandfather, George Featherstone (born at Horsmonden, Kent c.1864/5) on the 1901 Census for Burham, Kent. I wonder if you know anything about this branch of the Featherstone family please? I look forward to hearing from you. With best wishes from Sheila Fermor Clarkson www.fermors.co.uk

Hello Paul, I've fresh info on my Featherstone ancestors. I'm using the ID refs from your "Featherstones in the South East" pages to help identify - hope that's useful.

George Featherstone (I1524) married again to Rose Mary Bromley at Maidstone Register Office 12 June 1919 [Jun 1919 Maidstone KEN 2a 2482] His occupation given as Publican (He had the Harrow Inn, Ightham Common for many years ) He died 10 October 1946 at Ightham [DEC 1946 Maidstone 5b, 672 ] aged 82

Mary Ann Dawson (I2178) his first wife born Rochester, Kent 3 July 1864 [SEP 1864 Medway 2a 359 ] died Ightham Common 3 September 1913 [SEP 1913 Malling 2a, 772 ] aged 49

My other offering, following another trip to the Maidstone archives, is the thought that the Mary Featherstone ( I0995) buried in Brenchley in 1818, aged 48, should be Mary (nee Aylard) wife of George. They married at Pembury in 1795 and, after their first children were seemingly Ticehurst born, their fourth was christened in Brenchley in 1802. The Kentish Gazette Pork Pie story of 1821 refers to the "house of the father of the prisoners where they all lodged" so he, at least, was still alive and in or about the village. I pored over the Brenchley archive hoping to find a likely candidate for the entry for his death/burial. I had no success there, but I could see no other Marys, so I hope you'll consider that she was the right age to be George's wife. (Mary Aylard = I1058 and George Feverstone/ Featherstone =I2462 ) Regards, Richard Richard Huggett richardwh@tiscali.co.uk 20 September 2006.
