The M Stevens' partial copy of the index to the graves and memorials (in the Armada Chest in Seal church) includes one partial transcription of a grave made in the 1970s - "Esther Featherstone, for 23 years the faithful and attached nurse to all the children of the Marquess Camden, who together with their father have placed this memorial as a mark of their...) The Camdens left Wildernesse in the 1860s so this grave is likely to be before or not too long after that date.
I believe the Camden family papers are mostly in the County Record Office for East Sussex because the family moved to their other seat at Bayham Abbey after they left Wildernesse. If Esther Featherstone was a family retainer there may be other references to her there.
Peter Mountfield petermountfield@hotmail.com 1 October 2003

I see that Esther was born in Warwickshire. I think it's possible that the Camdens (family name: Pratt) had estates there too, so it's possible that she was recruited to the family service there and moved with them to their main country home in Wildernesse. Just a hypothesis! Its also possible that she met and married her husband at Wildernesse, where he may have been a member of the staff. That's why I suggested that you might try to check the Camden family papers.

TITLE DEEDS
[from Administrative History] The greater part of the Camden estate was acquired during the second half of the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth centuries. The two principal houses were Bayham Abbey in Sussex, and Wildernesse Park in Sevenoaks, Kent. Compared with Bayham Abbey, Wildernesse Park was a stately mansion. It was designed by George Dance, the elder (1700-1768) and built probably in the mid eighteenth century. The property had previously been called Stiddulphs after some fifteenth century owners.
It was purchased by Sir John Pratt in about 1700 and on his death in 1724 passed to John Pratt, the eldest son of his first marriage who was then 34, and who kept open house for his half-brothers and sisters (the eldest of whom was only 13) there and at Bayham. In 1770 it passed to his son John who, when he realised he would probably have no children of his own, gave it up to Sir Charles Pratt and his family. This was just after the marriage of Sir Charles Pratt's only son John Jeffreys Pratt to Frances Molesworth and these two lived there until 1805 when Bayham Abbey came into their possession on the death of their uncle Thomas Pratt. It was at Wildernesse Park that Sir John Jeffreys Pratt, 1st Marquess Camden entertained the Duke of Wellington in 1832. The property was sold in 1886.
