Mary Anne Billings

F, #23412, b. 1821, d. 8 April 1890
Father*William Billings1
ChartsWilliam Featherston m. 1732 Nottinghamshire.
Mary Anne Billings was born in 1821 at Westerham, Kent, EnglandG; Mary was born in 1821 at Westerham in Kent, the daughter of William & Anne. She and George it seems had at least two children before they were married at Morley in Yorkshire on St Valentines day 1847.2 She was the daughter of William Billings.1 Mary Anne Billings was baptized on 18 March 1821 at Westerham, Kent, EnglandG.3 She was baptized on 18 March 1821 at Westerham, Kent, EnglandG.4 She married George Featherstone, son of William Featherstone and Elizabeth Randall, on 14 February 1847 at Church of St Peter, Morley, West Riding of Yorkshire, EnglandG; Witnesses to the Marriage between Mary Anne Billings and George Featherstone were Henry Welch & Julius Whitehead. George and Mary Anne were married at Morley in Yorkshire (where Alfred was born), and at the time of his marriage, George was a Miner.
We think George married Mary Anne Billings between 1841 and 1843 in the Kent region and that William his father is left at home with two of his grand- children as recorded in the 1841 census. Of course they could be William's own children. George must have travelled about as it seems he didn't return to Mansfield until either late 1847 or early 1848. By this time they already had 3 children. George died on the 13th of January 1882 at Fishponds aged 68 years, he died from Chronic Bronchitis Anasarca, certified by I J Gadsby MD. Mary his Widow was present at his death.5 George Featherstone and Mary Anne Billings marriage was registered in Dewsbury district Vol/Page 22.31 in the quarter of March 1847.6,7 She died on 8 April 1890 at Union Hospital 131 Stockwell Gate, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire., EnglandG.8 She was buried after 8 April 1890 at Mansfield Cemetary plot no.9754, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG. She Her death was registered in the Mansfield registration district in the quarter of June 1890 Vol./Page 7b.53.9
Kent Database; Y. As of December 1844,her married name was Featherstone.10 As of after 14 February 1847,her married name was Featherstone. She was enumerated as the Daughter in law of William Featherstone in the Census on 30 March 1851 William Featherstone Occupation was a farmer of 25 acres employing one labourer a widower living at Fish Pond House, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG.11 Mary Featherstone wasenumerated as the Wife of George Featherstone in the Census on 7 April 1861 George Featherstone Occupation was a farmer of 24 acres living at 1 Fish Pond, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG.12 Mary Ann according to the 1871 census index or more to the point what the census writer wrote was, Mrs Featherstone has 20 sons, 3 daughters and no twins. If this be true then there is still 9 sons to find. We Think that what she said to the enumerator was I have plenty of sons & three daughters, But of course she had four daughters.13 Mary Featherstone was enumerated as the wife of George Featherstone in the Census on 2 April 1871 George Featherstone Occupation was a farmer of 24 acres living at Fishponds, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG.13 Mary Featherstone wasenumerated as the Wife of George Featherstone in the Census on 3 April 1881 George Featherstone Occupation was a farmer of 24 acres employing 1 boy living at Brickhill Lane, Fishpond, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG.14 Mary Anne Billings was aged 69 at death as of June 1890.8,9

Sarah was visiting Fishpond Farm at the time of the 1871 census and she is married with a two month old child, Edward. Also with her (according to the census return), are her husband George and his sister Elizabeth whose age seems to be 13 years, but the enumerator could have made a mistake, as Elizabeth Featherstone is not on the return, but she would be aged 18 years. It seems Sarah had an illegitimate child in 1869 named Mary that sadly died at 9 weeks old. We cannot find Sarah on either the 1881 or 1891 Census's although we have found that her Husband and Children are living with George's Father at 19 Bells Yard In 1881, and the two elder boys are living with their Aunt Harriet Featherstone in 1891. Sarah Featherstone was enumerated as the daughter of George Featherstone in the Census on 2 April 1871 George Featherstone Occupation was a farmer of 24 acres living at Fishponds, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandG.7 Sarah Featherstone Not found in marriages or deaths or 1881 census in 2010.
