  2. [S1753] Judith Weppner, "Judith Weppner," e-mail to W. Paul Featherstone, 2014,
Thank you for your reply yesterday.
As I mentioned yesterday, I am the great-grand daughter of Keturah Featherstone/BLOWER.

Keturah and her husband Thomas Stevenson Blower with their infant son Thomas Henry, migrated to Queensland leaving London on the "Scottish Admiral" on the 19 July 1878, to arrive in Moreton Bay (Brisbane) on 30 October 1878. The age of Thomas Henry is not known as he was put into the column 0-12. On their arrival in Brisbane they were residing at what is now a suburb called Taringa. Way back in 1878 it would have been a small rural settlement. There is no record of what employment Thomas Stevenson was involved in.

Keturah gave birth to a second child approximately six months after arriving, to a second son, but as she suffered eclampsia she and her son George died. George on the 22 April and Kuturah on 24 April 1879. They were both buried in paupers graves in the Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane. I have since place a plaque in the Cemetery honouring them.

Thomas Stevenson went off to find work and Thomas Henry was left in the care of a lady who placed him in the Brisbane Orphanage as she was unable to care for him as no renumeration was forth coming even though promised.

What I have not been able to find is a birth registration for Thomas Henry. There is no record on Ancestry. I engaged the services of a researcher in England and she was unable to find anything. I would have thought that Keturah would have had the baby baptised. Keturah and Thomas Stevenson were married at the Parish Church in the Parish of Skelton in the County of York, on 13 May 1876 by Philip Ahier, curate. The witnesses were George Cook and John Featherstone. Thomas Stevenson's father is Joseph Blower labourer and Keturah's father is George Featherstone shoemaker. Thomas Stevenson came from Staffordshire.

John Featherstone is Keturah's grandfather, but I have nothing further on George Cook. John Featherstone's wife is Hannah Cook, was George a brother??

I have the birth certificate for Thomas Stevenson. He was born on 17 February 1853 and registered at Lichfield, which according to calculation was 23 years, but on the Marriage Certificate he stated his age as 25. And Keturah was almost 19 and she put her age up to 20.

Do you think there is any possibility of finding a birth record for Thomas Henry?

Grandad (Thomas Henry) never knew his real birthday, but adopted the date of his admission to the Orphanage as his birth date. But we as a family would be pleased if he did have a real birthdate.

I hope you may be able to help.

A little about myself; I am 80. Have married a second time and live in Toowoomba, an inland city west of Brisbane. I had 5 children in my first marriage. Trained a a nurse, worked on an Aboriginal Mission in North Queensland and then for 17 years in Brisbane in an Aged Persons home as director of nursing. Since living in Toowoomba, I have become quite involved with the genealogy of all the families connected with me and also my late and present husband.

Thank you again for your response.

    Judith Weppner.
