Note
|
Last night I looked up both the Headcorn Bishops Transcripts and Archdeacons Transcripts and could not find a single Featherstone entry. I looked at baptisms, marriages and burials in the Bishops Transcripts from 1795 until 1813, the end of the film that I was looking at. I went through the Archdeacons transcripts from 1800 until 1811, again the end of the film, nothing in either. I should add that I am quite familiar with both films as I have had them both a couple of times before and, although I say it myself, I am quite meticulous in my research having been an Admin Manager for 20 years, and when I search for someone else I do it just as keenly as if it were my own research. I feel that it is very unlikely that I would have missed a name like Featherstone if it had been there. The fact that there could have at least nine entries makes me feel absolutely certain that I have not missed any. Featherstone from Linda John Paddock [thepaddocks@hotmail.com] Harriet Hubbard, born March 12, 1813 in Scotland, died May 3, 1853 in Sharon Township Walworth Co. WI. Notes for William Featherstone: William Featherstone left England for America April 10th, 1830, aged 23 years, on the 29th of March. A native of Headcorn, Kent co. he landed in NY June 19, 1830. He died at age 74 years. William was a farmer as was his son William Hubbard. The family lived at Sharon Cooners, which is the intersection of County Trunk K and Brick Church Road. The home was on the northwest corner and very close to the road. This family was Baptist and were members of the Brick Church. It is said when William came to Wisconsin he had land near Clinton. He traded with another family to be closer to the Brick Baptist Church. They are buried in the Brick Church Cemetery. William had several brothers and sisters and they all came to this country. The brothers and sisters of William (not necessarily in birth order) were. Peter, Horace (sometimes called Edward), John, Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Harold and Pheby. It is said that two of these ladies lived in a log cabin near the Brick Church. It is also said that two of these ladies perished in the Chicago fire. Children of William Featherstone and Harriet Hubbard are:
GENERATION NO. 2 Francis Sawyer, born September 10, 1856 in Fairbault (Rice) Minnesota. Died February 21, 1924 in Walworth Township Walworth Co. WI Notes for William Hubbard Featherstone. William bought a farm at the corner of Highway. 14 and Brick Church road. He with the help of his family built the house that stands there yet today. They were farmers and raised cattle. William would drive the cows to market in Milwaukee. It was told to me by Benjamin his son, that when his father was on his way home from Milwaukee on the old Plank Road they could see the Chicago fire. He was a member of the Brick Church for a great many years. He is buried in Brick Church Cemetery. Children of William Hubbard Featherstone and Francis Sawyer.
from Alan Reader - *Talked to a Mrs. Beatrice Stoll, 90 years. old and living in a senior center at Walworth in 1984. She descended from William, above, through his son, William, and William's son, Benjamin. She said the eight brothers and sisters left England 10 April 1830 and landed June 1830 in U. S. |
